Government 2.0 article series on Mashable
4. September 2008 – 11:07 by Bengt FeilAs the 2008 elections in the US are coming up and the social/political web is very much in motion and developing there is the need for a comprehensive overview of what general trends are going on right now in term of politics and the web.
Dr. Mark Drapeau has written and will go on writing a series of articles on this topic on Mashable which are really insightful. Dr. Drapeau is working at the Center for Technology and National Security Policy of the National Defense University. His articles on Mashable range from his insight view on modern government and the net (as he is formally working for the US Government) to the question of branding in politics today. Especially his discussion of the use of social media as part of government internal communication in contrast to public communication is very interesting.
I recommend you to take a look at this article series and I am looking forward to others to follow.

Thanks very much for the great comments. I’m happy that you find the writing useful! There is indeed a lot of excitement about the topic in the U.S., some because of the election, and some because the technology is ripe. Many people have been writing to me from all over about what they are doing with “Government 2.0″ and it is really terrific!
Thanks also for introducing me to PEP-NET, which I’m now following on Twitter. With PEP-NET being the European network for eParticipation - including politics, the Internet, social media, and citizens, it seems like a great group to know!
